Why do employers ghost after final stage interview?

It’s been almost two weeks and I haven’t heard anything after the final interview. Not sure it matters but it’s a very well known company

Previously another large ‘prestigious’ company ghosted me after the final stage interview too

How hard is it to send an automated email?

Agree. They have their final candidate and move on and don’t bother telling you.

They've probably made an offer to another candidate and you are the 2nd choice, so haven't got back to you until the other person accepts. Maybe they're negotiating.....

I have had this. We select a successful candidate but have to wait for references, checks, sign off blah blah blah before telling the others, in case the checks don't work out. By the time it's all done, it's weeks later and the unsuccessful candidates have given up. So I either email (raising their dashed hopes) or ignore (rudely).

There's no right answer.

This was my thought

It's awful and I have no idea why companies think it's ok.

Not nearly as bad as your experiences, but I recently applied for two roles, uploaded to their portals and didn't hear back. There is no reason why they can't trigger a 'thanks but no thanks' email to all unsuccessful candidates. Whether it's one person or a thousand people it's one mailshot, it really isn't that hard!

I work in the public sector and in 90 percent of cases they het in touch with the outcome. This is usually a phone call from the lead interviewer. If not, an email.
