Considering reducing my hours/income and tax

Hi all. I've been considering reducing my work hours for some time. My salary has recently been reviewed and I will just earn over the threshold to start paying 40% tax on the difference. I no longer qualify for my DH's 10% allowance (as he does not work). What I can't get my head around, is if I reduce my hours (I.e. by one day) would this then bring me under the threshold for 40% tax and enable me to claim my DH 10% allowance. I am definitely thinking quality of life and if it is affordable I will definitely consider it. Just want to ensure my understanding is correct. Thank you.
