I’ve been discussing PIP content with boss.
Essentially the first review period is due but I’ve asked them to make it smart and they have taken items out so I’m “comfortable” with it. They still had a go at me for the behaviour of others (which has been taken out as ann incident had occurred with one of my LMs while I was on PTO) and that they’d not seen evidence of me discussing it with them. I did do this in a verbal session but the person basically said my boss didn’t turn up to a meeting with HR to discuss layoffs and they had questions which HR couldn’t answer. I’d been told by my boss not to mention it as it wasn’t happening imminently yet it did when I was out so my line managee felt unsupported but it would have been better to give them the heads up. I felt awkward about giving my manager that feedback due to this PIP and making things worse! My boss had also been asking a toxic colleague to ‘run things past them’ despite this toxic colleague being under HR investigation because of their bullying behaviour. So I got this, “there’s this concern…” which I knew came from this toxic colleague as it was only me/toxic colleague/client and my boss wouldn’t reveal sources. If it was the client they would have been open about that.
There are other things like everything being a priority so if one thing slips by the wayside, you’re made to feel you are failing. My workload has quadrupled and things the last boss did, this person is pushing down making everyone else accountable except themselves. I don’t see this person engaging with the finances and the business and therefore it’s like they panic when they don’t think stuff is getting done but it is. I’ve spoken to a mentor about some of the stuff going on and they said they’d recommend a grievance. I’ve got a couple of interviews at 3rd stage but I don’t have much else in the pipeline interview wise. The updated PIP will be out in the system next week so need to decide if I raise a grievance or is it more hassle than it’s worth? The new measures will be rolled out to all but only me and another person will be measured as per PIP (even though other depts metrics are worse than mine!). I’d have 2 months more and unless the business gets more work I’m not likely to pass the PIP. Ive met all my goals since I’ve been at this place and had no warnings. Staff questionnaires have been good and engagement good despite all the challenges. This boss is new and never manages global teams, micromanages and has far too many new initiatives on the go despite lots of changes before they arrived. So grievance or try to beat the PIP?
