Head office think store manager is wonderful but he’s a nasty bully

I work for a major supermarket chain. Our store manager who has been in charge of the store since spring. He is bullying, making staff cry, disregarding disabled employees and the law, creating the worst possible morale. Many staff have left due to appalling behaviour.

Yet higher management think he is wonderful. Yes wonderful about making staff cry and leave (I am 98% likely to leave myself). Nothing wonderful to shout about.

Several colleagues have raised grievances towards him and nothing happens. He has ousted decent managers to go to other stores and poached his previous managers

When he’s off, the atmosphere is much better.

Why can’t the higher management wake up, remove their rose tinted glasses and take action in removing the vile human from the role and never again to be a manager?

He was exactly the same when he managed previous stores. Surely the large numbers of staff leaving under his management would raise alarms? Apparently not.

One thing is he’s of an ethnic minority and myself and others reckon if he was white, he would have been dismissed before he got this store role. Should treat all races the same.

My guess is that as long as he's making profit for the company they really don't care how he treats the staff

Perhaps his orders were to shake things up a bit. And get rid of staff. The easiest way is to be a nasty piece of work so that people leave on their own terms.

If they sack him he can take them to tribunal for racial discrimination. HR and management rarely sort out bully managers which is why people experience a bully leave.
