I feel on the verge of burn out. I covered a task for another team for 18 months as they had staffing issues and sickness. I finally handed it over to them this week. I just need to tie up loose ends. The manager of the other team turned a blind eye and did not see if I was ok and never got any thanks for doing it. This task was originally part of my team which a colleague was doing then left so I had to jump in as no one else had experience of doing it even though it was not my job. Our team did this task before a restructure which meant the other team should have been doing it and did not bother to get any cover in for 18 months as HR refuse temps for budgets. Though there is money for brand new positions being created on a regular basis while we all struggle.
I felt really pressured yesterday and people from other teams are sending passive aggressive emails chasing up things. I can’t do everything, they think I just sit there.
The manager is unsupportive as 2 colleagues left 3 weeks ago (because of the manager’s bullying) and he refuses to get temps in and is waiting for recruitment so that means they won’t be in place until November. It is a customer facing team so enquiries can be sat there for months and he expects us to deal with the work of 2 vacant posts. My manager said in a recent one to one if I feel like leaving to speak to him. I thought this was an unprofessional comment and he should be making sure I don’t get to that stage of looking elsewhere. He knows I have a lot of knowledge which a lot of people don’t know about the organisation as it is historic.
I have always been over a week behind with my work doing this other task. The director is doing a restructure and people have been advised that their workload will increase. I don’t think I could cope with anymore work overload. I am dreading next week as my calendar is full.
