Mis sold new job?

Interested to know what others think. Started a new job last week.
Between handing my notice in and signing a new contract I was advised the number of office days might be increasing from 2 per week to 3.
Found out when I started

  • my boss has quit
  • it's def going to be 3 days per week in the office
  • they are moving the office to a much further location from me (found this out accidentally, company announcement with the details next week)
Feels like it's been mis sold to me-would anyone else be annoyed and want to get out of there asap or am I over reacting?

How much further away is the new office? How long will it take you to get there?

Sethera · 26/08/2024 12:21

It would depend on why I left my previous job; whether the things that were better about the new job were still worth it given the extra office day and location change.

It's about another 40 mins I think- I'll have to check once the official info comes out

Good points. At the moment I'm between bemused and annoyed and of course looking back with rose tinted glasses!

Obvious question - has your previous role been filled, would they take you back (if you wanted to return). I know someone who did this and did not at all regret going back!

I had a similar problem when I discovered my boss had been moved on and I had a new horrendous female boss who was a total bully.

My job was to introduce a major new system as I had experience elsewhere that they wanted so I stupidly stayed for 5 years hoping it would get better, it didn't. She didn't like the fact that I knew more than her and she thwarted me at every turn.

Don't make the same mistake that I did.

Can you go back to your old job?

I’d be furious about the 40 mins further commute. I’d be telling them I’ll be wfh 4 days a week while job hunting.

Thanks all. I can probably go back to my old job but I'm always giving other people advice not to be too hasty!
Yes the extra 40 mins is the bit that's got me as that was a factor in leaving my other job and it's going to make it the same commute of an hour and a half but an extra day a week 😂

You could say that as the 3 day per week and office move was introduced after your offer you will need to stick to 2 days per week. Our policy would allow us to honour offers made before we increased office based days.

I'd just leave so you can leave it off your CV. Red flags!!!!

watchuswreckthemic · 05/09/2024 18:24

Also found out today that I'm being left to do the job of 2 people as budget issues and they aren't replacing someone else who is leaving!
Literally waiting for pay day and handing my notice in- applying for a new one at the weekend and I'll find out in the next 2 weeks if I can go back to my old job.
Appreciate all the support!
