NMC lapsed registration

Hello I hope someone can help. I just checked my registration on NMC and it came back as lapsed. Naturally I have now cancelled any shits I was scheduled.to work
I have read what I must do and am really scared. It's my own fault, I was under the impression that my payment was due in August but it was actually July. My PIN lapsed on the 31st of July, today is the 24th of August. I am working zero hours contract with NHS Professionals.
Has anyone ever experienced this and if so please let me know what to expect. It's a bank holiday weekend and can't do anything untill Tuesday.
I have already chosen my referees. How long does it take to get back on the register?
I am already judging myself. I am going through a divorce and am just overwhelmed. Please be kind. Thank you for your help

Oh shit, I’m so sorry, what a fucking nightmare for you. This happened to my colleague and I think it took around a month to get back on. I hope it’s quick. NMC really piss me off with their lack of reminders etc.

Had a look and didn't have a reminder in my emails

It’s general advice for anyone submitting reflection into a wide range of reasons why their fitness to practise may be called into question though. It’s not specific to those who forgot to pay their fees.

In many cases it is appropriate for a registrant to explore their feelings around an event and how they might avoid something similar happening in the future. And pretty much every regulated profession will have something similar.

It’s literally from the section entitled : Readmission or practicing whilst lapsed

That’s the RCN website not the NMC?

Yes - as I have explained - this is the RCN guide to writing a reflective account that will satisfy the NMC’s requirements

Hey guys and gals,

Just a quick update I called NMC on Tuesday and they said that upon submission requests are only reviewed on a Thursday so applications should be admitted by Wednesday . Managed to get my referees am just waiting on NHS Professionals to respond. My gosh the stress is real.

Hey guys, just an update. After trying to find as much information as I can on this subject and finding nothing much I feel inclined to give as much info as I can.
As I work for NHS Professionals it's been frustrating. There is hardly anyone readily available to advise because they either don't know or just don't respond! I will be honest in my posts so that you know what to do. So I wasted a lot of time waiting around for human resources to respond and they still haven't. My referees have been fantastic they are poised and ready . I submitted my application yesterday I ended up putting a name from human resources I was given even though she hasn't had the decency to respond. You do have to pay your registration fee as well straight away. They do charge the full £120. I get the sense quarterly is out of the question. My only concern is I am keen to work as a band 3 while I wait and I don't know if they will let me. They have not suspended my ability to book shifts etc . The ward manager I normally work for is keen to support this but NHSP is dreadful at communicating. Its a short stay unit and my role could be working as an HCA and to also facilitate discharges which is less clinical. I know that technically I should be "punished" and no one owes me any favours but I am a single mum with an autistic son. I need to work.
Will continue to update you

I’m rooting for you to get this sorted asap 🤞

Hopefully this gets sorted quickly. This happened to my colleague, she named me as a referee but I was never contacted by nmc, I guess they just checked I was on the register. She felt the process of having to write a reflection about it very patronising. Our employer was very understanding and she was able to continue her role under supervision from a registered colleague. The bonus was once it was all sorted out it counted as a re-entry to the register and revalidation date was moved to 3 years from that date.
Good luck, I hope it gets sorted quickly for you.

Restorationqween · 07/09/2024 17:47

Hey everyone,
First of all I am grateful for all of your input. I really appreciate your sound advise and compassion. Since we are encouraged to reflect in nursing this is a mini one. The first thing I will say is Direct debit is good if you can. When I investigated my issue I did have a direct debit. But my old cancelled car insurance took a payment ( my DDs have a separate account) and that then effed up every thing. I would have been ok. I got my refund and used it to pay annually. Side note I kicked off at the old insurer and they reluctantly paid extra for inconvenience caused.
The interesting thing is I didn't receive one email from NMC in terms of notifications or warnings or reminders! So please be careful. I am still waiting to hear back however they have contacted one of my referees. It's been horrible and it won't happen again. I will be InTouch one more time with the final outcome. Thank you all so very much. Wish me luck as I plan on following up on Monday 🤞

Hey everyone finally got my registration sorted. In terms of processing times NMC were quick. It's just a case of you getting everything to them as quick as you can.
NHS Professionals were the biggest let down. No one knew how to handle my issue and human resources were as helpful as a chocolate teapot. They held up things and I ended up asking someone from the trust I work to do the employer reference
Thank you for taking the time to advise me.This wont happen again. Stress aint worth it.

That’s not true. Mine is due end of September and I’ve had about 3 emails so far.

OP, it will be fine, you’ve taken ownership and decisive action. In future set up a direct debit so this doesn’t happen again. You aren’t the first person this has happened to, nor will you be the last. I hope they get you back on the register soon but if the people it’s happened to that I have known it has taken up to a month. They’ve been able to work at a lower band though to keep some money coming in.

I always get email reminders also
