At a crossroads

I’m on mat leave and will be going back to work later this year, hopefully going up a management grade on a perm basis at work having completed a temp secondment at said grade for a year before my mat leave began.

I recently applied for a role in my team with loads of relevant experience, felt like a dead cert to get it… and well after an informal interview didn’t.

My confidence is really knocked, and I have had several interviews now where I’ve been told I’ve hit the mark and can clearly operate at the required level but someone else has aligned better based on experience (cue me querying as I have a years experience, plus how do I get more without someone taking a chance…).

My confidence has been knocked and I’m running out of steam. Feel like I’m a bit of a cross roads on whether to keep pushing in this industry where the door seems ajar but just won’t open for me.. or just give up and do something different at my current level just to switch things up and get moving somewhere . Any advice from anyone who has found themselves a bit stuck at grade without a clue on what to do next?
