New job!

Hi,

I don’t really have that many people who I can share this news with in real life but I am so bloody pleased that I have a new job!

I started out as a catering assistant in a school 8 years ago and worked my way up to supervisor, assistant manager and then catering manager. I have now just secured a job as a Regional Catering Manager supporting 10 schools and overseeing their catering operations.

I have also increased my pay from 26k to 40k which finally means that as many years as a single parent who was reliant on benefits to top up my income despite earning a decent ish wage I now no longer qualify for that help which feels great.

I’m so proud and excited!

Really good to hear that this is still possible for people. It's encouraging to know that the the job you start in is not where you end up. Well done on your hard work to get there.

Huge well done OP.

But this bothered me - why would anyone think that job you start in is where you end up? Of course it's always possible to use your experience and undertake more training to move up.
Nobody senior began their career in their current role, they have all worked hard to get there.

Coconuthotchocolate · 13/08/2024 12:19

Well done! Congratulations.

Chickendinner24 · 13/08/2024 12:40

Congratulations, op! Massively life-changing salary!

BerryPieandCustard · 13/08/2024 12:52

Thanks everyone I am so pleased 😌

for a job that I kind of fell into when becoming a single parent as it enabled me to work school hours it has ended up being something that I absolutely love.

School food is so important to support children to grow and learn and when done right it is a pleasure to eat. Unfortunately it still gets a poor rep but I hope I have changed that perception in the school I work in and will make a positive impact in the schools I will be supporting.
