Handed in my notice during summer holidays??

Hi all

So I currently work in a sixth form college and handed in my notice a few days ago, however, it is currently the summer holidays so I sent my resignation email to HR but have not heard anything back? I did ask them to send receipt of email but they haven’t emailed back. They normally work during half terms too so I presumed they would be in during summer. Will the date of my resignation still count? As I’m starting uni in September and don’t want to miss the start of the semester. I’m also not entirely sure who I should get in touch with if not because they are the only ones that are usually in college during holidays. Also I have checked my contract and it does not say I can’t hand my notice in over summer, simply stated I must give a months notice.

Anyone had anything similar?

Telling HR is fine

I haven’t informed my manager as I didn’t think it was necessary if I have handed in my notice to HR. Plus it is her summer holidays too so I don’t want to ruin her out of hours time, they are very strict on not working out of working hours. We also don’t get on very well and i know they are going to make my life hell for the time that I have to work.

When I worked in a school it was accepted that you would either hand your notice in before the end of term or wait until September. That said, if your establishment admin / HR staff operates year round, then you may get a response soon, perhaps the staff are taking some leave themselves whilst the college is closed to students
