having recently left a job which was going nowhere- no pay increase in three years, no promotion prospects, no training, no benefits at all- I am thinking ahead to trying to geta new job. The problem is, if I apply now I fear that propspective employers will not shortlist me for interview as they will be suspicious of someone who left a job after three years. I have got children at primary school to look after, but I wouldn't want to focus on that in a future interview. The fact is, I have in effect given myself a "sabbatical" but I do want to return to work soon - but somewhere better than before. It just was soul destroying having to neglect my children for an employer who was giving me no motivation or rewards.

could you spin story that you left to spend more time with kids but realised you missed work so much and are desperate to get back.

Just say that you took an unofficial sabbatical to reassess your career path. Tell them exactly what you wrote here, that your previous job was unfulfilling and that you needed a rest period to reflect on your goals.

Some useful advice - thanks.
