Which job to choose-NHS

I need to make a decision ASAP on which of 2 roles I have been offered to accept. Both roles are the same pay (NHS). Whichever role I choose, I'll be keeping my existing part-time (14.8 hours) work from home flexible academic job.

Job 1: 22.5 hours, set days for the vast majority of the time with very occasional night shift or weekend. Work over 3 shorter days of 8-4 or 9-5. Boss and team seem fine but inside intel tells me there were issues in the wider department recently with bullying and lots of people left. Apparently this is now resolved and didn't affect my team. Possibly more potential for moving to higher band in this role.

Job 2. 20 hours a week over 2 long days. Lovely team and manager. Weekend work was not mentioned at interview but have now found out that new starters are being given 7 day per week contracts as the department will probably move to providing a weekend service at some point . All current staff just have mon-fri contracts so am nervous that I would be given lots of weekend shifts. I am going to ask today how many weekends per month I would do but doubt I'll get an answer as the service is currently mon-fri with weekends covered by NHSP. I'd probably stay at Band 5 in this role.

I have children just starting high school and am divorced so children with their dad every other weekend. I'd appreciate your thoughts as I'm struggling to decide.

Well I’d go for job 2, primarily because I don’t ever want to do a night shift again! I also wouldn’t underestimate the importance of having a lovely team and manager. If the job was not advertised as weekend hours then you might be fine, but I would ask for clarification anyway. I’d also prefer slightly longer hours over 2 days than working 3 days but appreciate you may need to work around childcare etc.

Then nights would be very very rare in job 1. Thanks for your thoughts. The children's dad works from home so we could manage childcare fine.

I like the thought of routine for the children with job 1 but there are clear advantages to job 2 aswell.

Job two weekend enhancements in pay and no nights

Job 2.

You can negotiate the weekends so you have weekends off when the children are with you.

We get four requests a month for shifts but I'd have to use these to get a specific day off per week for my academic role. Still leaning towards job 2 I think.

Job two for me no brainer, get it out of the way
