After maternity leave, I’m back to work and juggling being a project manager and a new mum. It’s been challenging, especially since we got a new General Manager while I was away. Since I returned, I’ve noticed some of my team members are on the edge of burnout. Their productivity has dropped, and they seem overwhelmed. I’ve been trying to get our GM to consider a technique called resource smoothing. It’s a simple concept where we spread out work more evenly, focusing on the most important tasks and making sure everyone has a manageable load. This way, we avoid peaks where everyone is overloaded and troughs where people have too little to do. I think it would really help us get back on track and keep the team happier and more productive. However, our GM isn’t taking my suggestions seriously. He delays replying to my emails and keeps postponing meetings to discuss these changes. It’s frustrating because I know this approach could make a big difference. Has anyone else experienced something similar with a new boss? How did you handle it?
