I start a new job on Monday - anyone else?

I've been a SAHM for 5 years and have somehow managed to land a very senior job in my old industry, managing a big team.

I'm really looking forward to it but also feel like there is a lot of "fake it until I make it" going on whilst I remember how to be in a proper job!

Anyone else starting a new job soon?

Not starting but returning to work after a hysterectomy and feeling nervous!

I start my new job a week on Monday after a 5 month break and having left a very stressful situation at my last job. I’m very nervous!

I’m trying not to overthink how it will go. I’ve chosen my outfits for the first few days, and I know where I’m supposed to be and when, but my nerves are building the closer I get to the start date!

Good luck for Monday!

Yes outfit choices have really stressed me out - I want to feel nice walking in!

I started back after a 6 year SAHM break again in a more senior position than I left (albeit in a smaller company) a couple of months ago.

I honestly thought I'd be quite rusty but it's amazing how much has just come back so quickly!

Dress code is definitely more relaxed than before with people wfh during covid but this company is now back to office 5 days!

Footwear I found more difficult as obviously I've spent the last 6 years in trainers! But trainers are accepted in my workplace now but more box white than ones rather than ones that have seen a hundred trips to the park! I barely wear the smart loafers I bought for the interview!

I bought basics from M&S, next and asos whilst I find my work style. I can get away with jeans, T-shirt and a nicer jacket so I'm building up a collection or a shirt / nice top all with trainers or sandals. I'm starting to feel good about myself again rather than not investing in myself as a sahm. Get your nails & brows done if you don't currently. I also had a make up make over to freshen my look and to have simple products to use when trying to get myself & 2 kids ready in the morning!

Good luck! I'm sure you'll smash it!

@spottydinosaur that is so useful thank you! Anything else you'd recommend? The casual thing I've found really hard to adjust to the idea of
!

@Iampondering i found a few people on Instagram who just do workwear outfits and provide links which has helped!

Other advice....

Fresh haircut
New note books & stationary
I did a large shop of toiletries and essentials as I won't have time to just pick up daily.

I did also spend 2 days cooking to fill the freezer to make dinner times easier

It is amazing how quickly we all got into a routine, it was good for me, DH & the kids as they all stopped being so dependent on me. It also stopped DH working ridiculous hours!

Now in the process of getting a cleaner as my job affords us to be able to do this now!

Advice I got but haven't used is to sign up for hello fresh etc a couple of evenings a week.

I'm really enjoying being back at work and having more to think about than what the family needs

Me! Just stumbled on this thread I start new job tomorrow too after 30 years with previous company so feeling bit nervous . From what I gather there are a couple of us starting together which makes me feel bit better as am so used to being the go to person in my old place will be strange starting again as the newbie.

Think I'm prepared have sorted outfits got some new bits from M&S and Next but want to see what dress code like first then plan to go shopping next weekend and do some online orders . I wore uniform in last job so quite excited to get new work wardrobe although after training period it's hybrid 2 days office 3 days home . I've just packed my bag and booked train tickets need to catch the 7.20am train so setting alarm and early night for me.

Good luck for tmor Smile
