To wonder how often people just make things up and stir things at work.

Something has me thinking at 1am this morning.
Yesterday at work, a lady(let's say Sarah) was looking for a lady called Jane and asking if anyone had seen her. I needed to go and fetch something for Sarah and on my way I saw Jane on the computer. I very casually said, "hi Jane, Sarah's looking for you as she needs help with blah blah"
I finally made it back up to Sarah when Jane is relaying that I had told her she had to go IMMEDIATELY, as Sarah had demandsd to see her and that she had asked to finish something and I had told her no she couldn't and she had to go right away that minute!!"
She didn't realise I was just walking towards them and then she saw me and went bright red and I made a joke of it and said "Oi! I never said that!!"

Yes, this is very menial but it makes me wonder how often things are completely misconstrued in a work place just by people twisting or making things up! You just never get to witness it usually.
It was totally not true, not the words or tone I used at all!!!

No idea, I am happy to chat and have had different friends over the years from work but I am there to work not live in a soap opera

Totally true. I like honestly and I hate people making up rubbish.
Mind too active and annoyed this silly little occurrence is keeping me up at this time! 😅

That’s horrible. I loathe that kind of thing- it may seem small, but it creates strife and bad feelings; the stories like that grow, and then you’d never know why someone was giving you the cold shoulder or being somehow off with you.

really hate it. I am not sure why people embroider. Seeking drama is my only thought - and ugh, how tedious.

Me too. Made me really think his many people make things up in life. I wouldn't have known if I didn't overhear.

I think it happens more often than you think. I avoid drama lamas but there are those who gravitate towards drama and gossip and thrive on it.

yes i rung in sick but when i came in the story was i had said it wasnt convenient!
when i probably said i am sorry for the inconvenience
everyone went quiet when the boss came in to give me my pay packet and thought he would say something

NoahVale · 26/07/2024 06:42

i still work with liars and try so hard not to get caught up with it.

I was caught up in a situation which was politically motivated and had to leave my job as a result. It was the most horrible situation where something I’d said informally, and what I’d thought privately, was misrepresented.

I think people just like to exaggerate don't they?

Someone told me that one of my team had said I was "always telling them off for...."
I've never told anyone off at work in my life! Just an exaggeration for effect isn't it. I didn't take offence.

My daughter has been injured and so I wanted to leave school early when I was free.

I went to talk to the deputy head about it. She said "Yes I heard about it and that you were going to leave every day without telling anyone."
I assume the head who didn't like me had told her.
I also assume she didn't think before she spoke
