I start a new job on the 12th of August. Unfortunately ill at the moment (hospitalised). They are willing to discharge me but I need to come back for a cat scan , double endoscopy, ultrasound and another iron infusion over the next fortnight. Separately and it’s a 3 hour round trip. They have said to rest. I think I need to get GP to sign off sick for a few weeks but my current employer is funny about sick pay, like you’ve stolen it from her purse! I’ve been there 1.5 years but I’ve not had sick pay previously neither has anyone else!
My concern is they might be a bit effusive about telling my new employer I’m currently ill who might withdraw job offer leaving me screwed. I suspect she’d be chirpier if I offered to forego notice/ sick pay with immediate resignation. I’m hopeful illness will resolve so bc won’t need lots of time off going forward plus it’s flexible / work from home so can balance it out.
Can I ask what you would do in my position ( I’d only get SSP) so doesn’t seem worth jeopardising new ( better paid) much more flexible job for £400or whatever
