Any positive stories! I am being put on one as my new manager have been having issues.
i head up a sub dept and 4 out of 5 heads are unhappy with her and are struggling with the extra stuff they are assigning, there’s favouritism with the one director
which they are including on all of the initiatives to the exclusion of others and training other directors on stuff that they know about. All of us are being spoken to like in kindergarten and can’t help think this PIP is strong arming as they are saying I have what it takes to be successful and they are ‘trying to help me’. We’ve been told to air any concerns with their approach in 1 to 1s only where it’s a ‘safe’ space! But in huddles with her other line report to keep concerns to themselves (they have said this to another head too). With our last manager the huddles were a safe space for all to discuss how we’d do things. The New initiatives and analysis they are making us do not make business sense as we don’t have much data due to changing processes, laws and computer systems yet insists on going down rabbit holes. I know there had been talk of us trying to speak to their manager but kkow
wed come off worse. WWYD? Im scared for my house as id definitely have to sell if I lost my job and couldn’t get another. I am sick to the stomach and had a rubbish weekend.
i have had no written warnings ever or in this role under the last 2 managers.

Only thing I can say is people leave managers, not jobs. I have left many toxic managers and jobs I enjoyed.

Cover your back, make sure HR are involved in the PIP process (they look after the company, not you so will want this done by the book), and start job hunting now.

Make sure you are in a union for extra support. Look for another job as toxic managers don’t change and HR sticks up for them even when they are wrong.

Scarletttulips · 21/07/2024 23:39

Speak to ACAS if you aren’t in a union.

What is it they are asking you to do/ on the PIP form?

stressfest · 21/07/2024 23:58

Don’t have it yet! Just been told it’s coming! No union! Do I have any say? Struggling as my new manager has no idea of my specialism and seems to take exception to 1 metric i am explaining it’s not relevant but they are insisting it is ! They don’t have a clue
but just going to have to say yes sir!
