Can another employer see that you’ve got another job?

So I’ve been told by my current employment I can only work a certain amount of shifts in my other job. Just wondering can they see how many shifts I’m doing? Both jobs within the nhs?

If both jobs are within the nhs it would be very easy for them to see yes.

@HighlyStrung1987 How would they be able to see?

They can check your worked hours internally. Either way if it’s in your contract that you can only work X hours elsewhere then you could be sacked for doing more so not worth it unless you don’t need that job. There’s also a cap on hours worked to prevent people (especially NHS) working full time day shifts and then picking up bank shifts overnight, it’s not safe for anybody to be doing that, and so there are rules to protect patients as well as yourself.

Your employer has a duty of care to make sure you aren’t working too many hours.

Your hours will all be put through on the same internal payroll system. I used to work in HR and payroll and had to report on hours worked to HMRC, our auditors, department heads etc. As someone else has mentioned, your employer has a legal and moral obligation to ensure that you don't exceed a certain number of hours each week.

Your employer has a duty of care to ensure you get enough R & R and that the patients receive good care, not from someone trying to work double shifts. If anyone works part time with my employer (not NHS), they have to offer up any extra time to the employer first and get permission for any second jobs in all cases.
