I worked for a company for 15 years and left in 2021 after returning from maternity leave to a really toxic environment.

Around 2017 we received an email from our company director that we we were given shares and would receive a pay out if the company sold but you had to still be working there. If you left, retired or died you didn't get anything.

I left in August 2021 and a month later my colleagues found out the company was sold and they would receive their shares. Obviously I was gutted as I missed out on over 20k.

Found out yesterday that a few colleagues who had retired prior to me leaving not only received a phone call from the company director but also received their payments. One of the ladies told me yesterday whilst I was shopping.

Nothing I can do about it is there? Please tell me to just drop it as I am fucked off to high heaven

Yes, it seems they’ve decided to honour people who retired but people choosing to leave/resign have forfeited.

There is a difference between retiring and choosing to leave

As long as they followed the terms of the shares that you were provided with, there is nothing you can do

Have you actually read my post?

Thank you however it did specifically state that if you retired you didn't get anything.

There are probably some rules that allow them to exercise discretion. Retirement is v different to resignation

Crazycrazylady · 17/07/2024 16:07

Sounds like they e made an exception for people who retired versus people who left voluntarily to work elsewhere .
Totally get that you're disappointed but it doesn't sound like there is anything you can do about it now.
