Gettting the balance "right" - kids/job

I've been workign pt for 6 months now and on the hwole it fits in with school hours. School holdiays are an issue though. Not only do I barely cover the childcare costs but it seems as if the days off I take are spent doing chores like kids' haircuts or chivvying to do homework rather than spending time at home together or seeing friends. Am trying to move towards termtime working (which would limit the weeks overlapping and give me blocks of time with the kids in holidays but I'd earn less overall) However in the meantime is it common to feel like this and how do others achieve a better balance ?

It's easier if you can get help in the house, such as a cleaner.

DH has to do his bit - any decision to return to work has to be a joint one.

You need to get the kids helping out with whatever they are able to do - you are not their skivvy.

You might need to drop your standards a bit.
