Didn't get an interview for an internal role I'm already working on

Just that really, would have been a diagonal move to another team with more scope for progression. Hiring manager and HR put in a meeting this morning to say they wouldn't even be interviewing me, so a lovely painful 10 minute meeting that i spent just nodding and keeping it together.

Currently having a little cry in the loos and feeling a fool because people in my team know I went for it (and even encouraged me!) Don't even know why I'm posting this

Very frustrating OP, I’m sorry! Take your time to collect yourself today and have a chill evening later.

I had a similar situation in my last job, it really brings down your morale.

You’d think they would have at least given you a courtesy interview! Do you feel up for asking for feedback?

CMOTDibbler · 15/07/2024 10:03

So you are already doing this job, but in your current team? Any particular things that were fed back to you as to why you weren't even getting an interview?

NamingConundrum · 15/07/2024 10:03

First of all, take the time you need to calm down. Secondly, as I imagine you didn't have time to process in meeting follow up an email asking questions you want answered. E.g. dear X, thank you for meeting with me personally earlier to explain your decision. Can you please provide me with feedback on my application to help me achieve an interview in the future. Third, get job hunting! Find that job elsewhere.

You poor thing. Good advice above. Gather yourself and get through the day but then ask for clear feedback.

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 15/07/2024 10:07

They did say they could give me feedback there and then but I don't think id have managed to sit through it. It's the first time in this company i've gone for another role and it's just knocked me a bit, I promise I don't cry in the loos alll the time! Part of me just wishes they'd have given me a pity interview

This has happened to many of us, you are not alone.

Cry today. Tomorrow morning wipe your tears and plan what now. Don't do anything dramatic or potentially bridge burning today. Consider how you want to do the handing over to the successful candidate when you were not even shortlisted. I would keep it to a document and say I am not available to support after the person starts, not even answering questions.

PasteldeNata78 · 15/07/2024 10:09

If it helps OP it might not be anything to do with you. The role might have been earmarked for someone else. Interviewing you would've been a waste of time.
It is however very strange that they needed a meeting with two others to tell you about not progressing.
There'll be other opportunities even in my own company I applied for a few before being successful some I didn't even get interviewed

It's another team so no handover

I thought she is doing the role already as per the title. Apologies if misunderstood.
