Redundancy question

DH is in a management role with a large company. He loved his job until 18 months ago when he got a new boss. He has been unsettled since then, but was waiting until March 2025 to resign, because that's when some significant share options mature (the end of a 5 year scheme). He knows his boss doesn't like him much. Today he was told that his department is being reorganised. His role is being replaced by a slightly different role, which he can apply for. He doesn't want it, and doesn't think his boss wants him to have it, but if he doesn't apply, is that likely to put his redundancy package at risk? i.e. tantamount to resigning.

Ideally he wants a redundancy package which includes whatever proportion of the share options package is due to him.

I think it depends, I am not an HR expert but I think if it’s deemed a suitable alternative role and he doesn’t take it I think that means he’s not eligible for redundancy but if it’s just an alternative role he can reject and be eligible for redundancy.

If he's being asked to apply for it then it isn't being "offered" to him as an alternative role
