Employers Offering "duvet days"

Does anyone work for a company that offer duvet days or wellness days as part of their benefits offer?

The opportunity to take impromptu leave that isn't sick leave, or annual leave.

I'm interested to see how this works in practice and whether it's utilised or frowned upon.

Never heard of it in the UK. Can't really see how it works if you work in a delivery focused industry.

We get a wellbeing day . I work in a school . We can choose one day as long as it doesn't interfere with staffing levels .

We used to have it - it came out of your annual leave and you rang in that morning and asked if you could have that day off. Only allowed to take it if something critical etc wasn’t happening and that there was cover etc,
think it was used as marketing to new hires - duvet day sounds attractive.
They got rid of it after a few years but most of my managers would have been ok with asking for a last minute day off anyway…

We’re encouraged to use up our sick leave as mental health days when needed. So refreshing bc senior management are vocal about when they do it, which really encourages the rest of us too.

My friend worked at a call centre where you got one ‘wellbeing’ day (it’s assigned to you, you can’t pick the day) every 4 or 5 week period, but they worked an extra 20 minutes or something each day to make up the time. She didn’t seem to mind and liked having that day to look forward to to chill or get doctor appts etc done.

mine used to it was basically you could have 3 day at short notice with no explanation

as usual piss takers spoiled it do it stopped

My old job gave us one wellness day a year in addition to annual leave. It was booked via the online leave booking system, was never an issue to take it and I very much enjoyed my extra day of leave and indeed used it for a day of pure self care…

We started doing it but not everyone was able to use them eg cleaner starting at 7am - not possible to arrange cover at such short notice. Would have been easier just to give us extra days holiday.

Bobbybobbins · 04/07/2024 20:47

I'm a teacher and we have had one this year to be taken whenever we want with 6 weeks notice. I went to a spa. Amazing.

autienotnaughty · 04/07/2024 21:04

We get a well being day but it's just added to holiday allowance so don't really notice it

Dobbycraft · 04/07/2024 21:08

We can have 1 per year, taken at short notice (same day) out of your annual leave entitlement. There are some rules around it e.g can't be taken the day after a bank holiday/company events

Ladymuck · 04/07/2024 21:14

2 wellbeing days a year, not to be added onto annual leave but can be taken at short notice by informing your boss (rather than submitting a request).

None at all. Though as you can work from home half of the time, if you are under the weather, easier to work.
