Immediate manager sabotaging me

A few months ago I started a thread about feeling down about not being able to progress at my workplace (local authority).

www.mumsnet.com/talk/work/4990852-unable-to-progress-in-public-sector-job-dejected-and-frustrated

Anyway since then me (cleaner) and another colleague (carer) have been accepted on to the (informal) leadership training course. Also, this week I got my completion certificate from my online admin course. So I am pleased about that 🙂.

However, my immediate manager seems to be sabotaging my progress. As previously mentioned, she gets really pissy about me using the work computer (despite having finished my cleaning duties, and her saying I can use the computer whenever needed- definite gaslighting on her part). Also the practice manager said I could mentor the new cleaner. Yet my immediate manager has appointed one of her favourites to do it. I have tried speaking to the union about this but they just ignore my emails (despite being happy to take monthly fees).

She just dosent like you . Sorry to say . I've always found that people who management like tend to be favoured over people with real skills and talent .

Maybe she sees you as some kind of a threat also , maybe someone who would stick up for yourself and is competent.

Well done on completing your admin course. That's great.

How is the informal leadership training course supposed to work? Is it structured?

You said the practice manager said you could mentor the new cleaner but your own manager disregarded that. You say you spoke to the union but did you go back to the practice manager?

Practice manager is on annual leave ATM, but I'll let her know as soon as she's back. I contacted the union by email but they haven't responded.
Yes there is a structure to the program, so there's formal mini courses we've attended and I meet up with practice manager every 6 weeks for formal/informal discussions. So far so interesting 🙂. It doesnt guarantee any official progression though. But I haven't done anything practical (like sitting in on interviews, mentoring/buddying with newbies etc). Whereas my colleague, doing the course has done. 🤔
So it does feel like sabotage

@atticstage I asked my department manager higher up and she was confused as to why I wasn't asked. My immediate manager walked past me 15 minutes ago and gave me the dirtiest look 😬

@Floogal I remember your thread. I am so pleased you have managed to get the development you wanted.

I agree your manager doesn’t like you. I think you will have to keep going over her head but there is little she can do if you are only asking for the opportunities you are entitled to.

🤞you manage to get an admin job.

UPDATE

I left a message for my manager's manager and the practice manager before going home. It was saying I don't want the opportunity to slip away but that she gets pissy about the computer & that one of her favourites was appointed. Obviously not in those words 😃. I shall also ring the union before my shift as extra back up; in case 'Kim Tate's gets the hump about me going over her head.

UPDATE PART 2
