Hi all

can anyone help me please?

I was working 15hr per week Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday but on 1st July I will be doing 20hrs a week working a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Can anyone tell me what my holiday entitlement will be and if bank holidays will now affect my al allowance?

thank you

Sam

What is the full time holiday allowance and the full time weekly hours?

Era · 26/06/2024 06:26

Paid Bank holidays are pro rated for part timers

Sammieantha86 · 26/06/2024 06:41

i believe it’s 5 weeks and 37.5hrs

You should have been getting pro rata bank holidays already. For working a 15 hour week you'd be entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks x 15 hours = 84 hours. For working 20 hours the minimum entitlement is 20 x 5.6 = 112 hours.

In both cases you deduct any bank holiday hours that you'd be due to work leaving you with days of your choice.

If you assume a 40 hour working week,

full time get 5 weeks, ie 5x r40 hours = 200 hours.

You’ll get half of this, so 100 hours

However, I have to take holiday leave for bank holiday so automatically ‘lose’ a lot of holiday. Check your company’s policy.

Also , when does your holiday leave start? If Jan, then from July to Jan, you’ll be going six months, so half the years holiday, so 50 hours for the period.

Sorry, just saw 37.5 hour week, so my calculations will be slightly out.

dementedpixie · 26/06/2024 06:51

5.6 weeks is the minimum for full timers unless you mean 5 weeks plus bank holidays.

Fuzziduck · 26/06/2024 06:54

112 hours on the Moorepay holiday calculator.

Sammieantha86 · 26/06/2024 06:57

I have calculated it to 112 hours over the year but it’s get a little bit messy for me having started extra hours part way through leave year - starts April - and also introducing a Monday unsure whether I can actually lose some of my entitlement now?

It's not that you lose entitlement; you just need to use some of it to cover Monday bank holidays. You get the same number of days as others working 4 days that don't work a monday but less choice as to when to take them.

A full statutory allowance is 28 days, which is 210 hours for a 37.5 hour week.

You were working 15 hours for April-June. 15/37.5x210 = 84 hours for the whole year, but you only worked 3 months, so 3/12x84= 21 hours for those months.

Then you'll work 20 hours for July-March. 20/37.5x210= 112 hours for the whole year, but you will only work 9 months, so 9/12x112= 84 hours.

84+21 = 105 hours.

You do 5 hours per day, so for each bank holiday you will need to take 5 hours leave if your workplace is closed/you don't work. In the 2024/2025 leave year there are 7 bank holidays because Good Friday was early this year.

105-35= 70

You have 70 hours available to book, which equates to 14 days.
