Career change but don’t know where to start

Hi,

I’m 32 and before kids I always worked in marketing. I’m now a freelance copywriter as it allows me flexibility, and when work is coming in, the pay is good. As the years go by however, I just can’t help feeling like a want a job that makes more of a difference for people.

I would love to work in a hospital (maternity or paediatrics or any department really) but obviously without going back to uni I couldn’t work in a clinical role. Or work with a cancer charity or something like that where I can help people.

Our kids are 1 and 4 and husband is military. Closest family is 4 hours away so I can’t rely on family for help with childcare on top of school and nursery.

Where would I go to find out career advice?

Thanks for reading.

Have you ever done any of this type of work? Before deciding to change careers I would get some experience to know if it really is for you. Would you have any time for volunteering? Even at home i.e. via Zoom? Or would counselling interest you? Plenty of online L2 courses to get a taster.
