Was This Sick Leave ?

I’m probably being thick but….

We have flexi and core hours.
Last Wednesday I did my 4.5 hours core, plus and extra 4 hours, so 8.5 total. (My average day is 7.24 which makes 37 over 5 days). So I basically worked a full day plus a bit extra.

I had already agreed to attend an evening staff meeting starting at 6pm but didn’t feel well so sent line manager an email saying I won’t be attending due to a migraine. And went for a lie down. Back at work normal time the next day.

I have now had an email from my line manager asking me to a ‘back to work meeting following my sickness absence’.

Is this correct ?
How can it be classed as a sickness absence if I worked beyond my allotted hours ?

If the meeting was outside of the core hours it shouldn’t count as sickness absence. There are usually rules about what is counted when you are off sick after having worked some of your day, and usually it says if you’ve worked over half and then go off sick it isn’t a sick day. In your case you’ve worked over a full day so it’s not sickness absence.

Came to say exactly what pp said. Out of hours core hours meeting as extra should not be classed as a working day. In my organisation if you have worked half of your hours the sickness doesn't count.

I work in a very similar organisation by the sounds of it. There was no sick leave and you worked a full day. Anyone who sets a 6pm meeting is a fool!

Thanks guys I feel it’s unfair so I’m more confident in challenging it now.

I have no sick leave on my record for years so it’s annoyed me a bit !
