PTSD and work - how do you manage?

I adore my job and my workplace so no problems there but ever since Covid my diagnosed PTSd has gotten worse, maybe due to lack of exposure? I know it doesn’t really go away but I was doing really well now struggling with terrible hyper vigilance and physical ibs symptoms. I have a big meeting this week and you’d think I was going to be hung for how terrified I and my body am.

How do you all manage?

Hi fellow sufferer here 👋🏻

For me it was a combination of right happy pill right does. You have to kiss a lot of drugs to find the right one.

Therapy to tackle the underlying situation that caused the issue.

Explore and note down your triggers in the moment? when do you feel most anxious and why. Try to tap back into your body, what's your body telling you. Is it crowds ? Is it someone who reminds you of someone who caused you harm in the past. Do you feel safe and supported ?

These are all points that worked for me but may not work for you.

Also just so you know ptsd is classed as a disability. It might be worth asking for an occupational health referral who,if they are any good should push for some things that may help.

So I'm also going to say this- years worth of me ignoring that little alarm bell monkey in my head when I was in a toxic environment and my body recognised it was toxic way before I realised.
PTSD is essentially your body's own v loud interusive alarm bell and it's there to protect you from further harm . I'm not saying feed it, I'm saying listen to what it's trying to say, and quietly judge from there.

You aren't alone ❤️❤️

@livingnight Thank you so much! This is really helpful for me I appreciate it. As it was down to violence where I was trapped I get funny about doors being closed and whether I can get out. I have phases where it does not bother me as much but when I am stressed out in general it gets worse.

I think I need to go to OH I agree, I’m fed up of trying to navigate it all and do my job, I get so tired of it!

thank you again xx

Ah it that makes perfect sense. I would go straight to OH on this one it's classed as a disability so they have a legal duty to help the situation xxx

I'm so sorry for what happened to cause this for you

It was okay in the end but a wake up call to get some more help. xx
