Feel dumb. New job working 9-5 Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday 9-1.30pm

I think a full day is considered 7.4 hours...
half hour unpaid lunch.

I'm paid 18.5 hours

Those hours you work come to 19 and a half hours a week ...

7 and a half hours Monday, 7 and a half hours Tuesday... So 15 hours. (You are there 8 hours each day, but have half hour lunch.)

Then 4 and a half hours on the Wednesday. So 19 and a half hours a week.

Looks like they're underpaying you by an hour if you're only being paid for 18 and a half hours.

Where is 7.4 hours coming from?

Mayhemmumma · 18/06/2024 15:51

Oh and no lunch break on the Wednesday

It's 4 1/2 hours on Wednesday with no break. I think it should be 3 1/2?

7.4 is the hours I take off for a day of annual leave

A half day on 7.4 should be 3.7 hours. (We have this at our workplace)

So 7.4 Monday and Tuesday, 3.7 on Wednesday which equals 18.5 hours.

You should be getting slightly more than a half hour lunch break, but most people don't quibble those ten mins and use them as a coffee break at some point in the day.

They have you working too long on the Wednesday, you should finish just before 1 (or at 1 as that's what most people do on a half day at my workplace)

In that case a full time would be 9-5 with a 36 min lunch break. However, plenty of places work out part timers’ leave by hours as they drop the 6 mins so take 7.5 hours for a full time day.

I think you are going to have to ask the company, especially since your hours don’t add up anyway.

I’m wondering if they’ve mistakenly put you down for an hour unpaid lunch on Monday and Tuesday? So 7 hours p/d.
Then 4.5 hours on Wed with no break.

Thats 18.5 hours.

Thank you - helpful to have some views on this before I question it.
