So I started doing a job last year and loved it, I will call this workload A. I’ve been working in my area for many years and then became a qualified person and have spent many years in education to get to where I am, gaining a degree and a postgraduate diploma to undertake workload A. Last year I was struggling as I didn’t have support in the office to do my job as my admin lady worked in another office in another town, so I suggested that I move offices to be nearer to them. Workload A was supervised by a more senior member of staff and when I first started, every email and letter was thoroughly checked before being sent out to clients, which made me feel better.
Anyways, I moved to the office in another town and was going to be working between there and my old office as the work load was very busy. I had a new supervisor (and was told I would still be doing workload A). I will call this manager Manager A.
I met some of the people who were based in my new office and I met the head of a team that do similar work but more niche by manager B (workload B, but which doesn’t require a degree). We clicked straight away and before I knew it she wanted me to join her team as I had some experience of the niche area before I qualified. I was very flattered that I was asked and the initial work load would be things I had been doing in my old office (I.e workload A and workload B). Workload A was then supervised by manager A.
Soon after some of workload A had been delegated elsewhere and they told me it was because they wanted me to focus on learning workload B. No feedback was given to me at any time during this process.
workload B was given to me over one day and I took over many new cases and I have been expected to know what I am doing even though I haven’t worked in that niche area for many years.
long story short, I got into the new work and it wasn’t what I thought it would be. I asked to have a meeting with my HR lady and my head of team to discuss going back to workload A, as this had always been an option. Manager B wasn’t at the meeting as I wanted to discuss with HR first. Anyways, they blindsighted me and said that manager B had brought some concerns to their attention, namely that I had got some details on a form wrong as I was unsure what I was doing. A lot of other feedback came back about workload A which was never mentioned to me. I feel very let down by them and as though they have conspired behind my back. at the meeting I had today, I got so frustrated I started crying and said that I don’t want to work in the niche area. I feel like I should have been given feedback at the time.
when I moved over to the new office the feedback from workload A was that I had good attention to detail.
I also point out that I had my appraisal recently and they said good things about me and were happy with what I have been doing. I feel as though they have been lying to me and talking about me behind my back. They have also said that I am to be performance managed. It has really affected my self esteem and I feel as though it should have been handled in a much better way!
i wondered if anyone else had similar experiences they could share.
ps I have 3 interviews lined up for work I was doing previously (workload A).
many thanks
