I think you have to have a certain amounts of time off before you can work again

need more information really, because if your partner is still expecting 50% contributions from you, then that needs addressing. You are a family now and he needs to step up

and the best time to have asked this was before ttc as saving a lot of money between you is the answer

You can't work while on SMP, you will lose it,

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2024 16:10

So either you go back early to work or live off smp

It's got nothing to do with contributions we just want to earn a little more cash

Then he can work weekend days to earn the extra money, as you can’t as you are getting a benefit that prohibits work

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2024 16:39

Congrats on newborn 👶🏼

How long are you planning to have off ?

I went back at 4mths as needed the money as self employed but also helped mini blondes slept 7-7 by then

Smp isn't a lot so did you not budget /put some away for while you are off ?

You won't be able to work but partner can so if you need more money then they will have to do evening /weekend work

You can do self employed work while claiming SMP.
As PP have said this needs to be a joint discussion. I’m on leave from teaching and have continued to do some additional writing, tutoring and consultancy on SE basis but it’s really hard; it needs good teamwork on childcare or a very flexible ‘employer’. I’m also in a position where my pension accrues as long as I’m on SMP. I tutor in the evenings after bedtime and write either early morning or evening, but it’ll top up the mat pay enough so that I can have a year off.

Your employment contract may say you can't work for anyone else without permission
