I work in a school. I have recently handed my notice in and have a new job.

Since telling them I had a new job the atmosphere has been awful, workload has tripled and SLT have done nothing but find fault with everything I do.

I have had to be signed off by the doctor for the final two weeks of my notice for work related stress. Parents were informed I was leaving when I handed my notice in. There has since been an email sent to parents telling them that I have been signed off sick and will not return. Is this actually allowed? I feel like my personal details have been shared without my consent and I am really unhappy about it as I live in the area and see these parents out and about.

If they haven't disclosed the reason for your sickness then it's not a privacy breach as such.

The school will need to keep parents updated about cover for the class, although they could have said 'Ms X won't be returning to school, the arrangements are as follows.' That might have been more appropriate but it could also get the rumour mill going about the reasons for your sudden departure.

I think it's probably better they explain you are sick than leave parents speculating about your sudden departure?

Sometimeswinning · 02/06/2024 23:50

I mean you’re leaving so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Cut all contact and move on. If you get an exit interview mention it then. Don’t get all tied up in this. Unless you’re up for the fight?

I mean it does sound a bit suss

Mullercornerbliss · 03/06/2024 11:18

What else should they have done though?

pinkdelight · 03/06/2024 11:33

They're explaining why you've gone earlier without the usual goodbyes etc. Seems factual not personal and how they'd need to inform your classes.

Congrats on the new job.
You're out of there. They're stuck there.
I wouldn't give a damn about what happens there now.
Leave them to it.
