Made a mistake turning down job offer

I applied for an internal job on the same organisation and was offered it but turned it down two days ago. I feel I've made a mistake. Would I be crazy to ask to be reconsidered?

Why did you turn it down initially?

You can certainly ask but I’ve had some persuasive reasons ready about why you made the wrong decision and how committed you are to the role.

They might now already have found another candidate. I wouldn’t delay in asking.

I was worried about losing line management responsibility and whether that would affect future career progression (as the new role is the same level but with no line management).

You can at least ask.

I've done this before. Turned down a job before Christmas and then spent the whole of Christmas worried I'd done the wrong thing! Called them in January and they still hadn't found anyone so all worked out. It's worth a shot. Changing jobs is a big decision, it's understandable that sometimes people make the wrong choice.

Why do you now want the job? Is it just FOMO?

I think if you are going to go back, you need to be able to articulate your concerns re lack of LM, but what you have noticed that the job gives to compensate. And also ask lots of questions to alleviate any remaining fears
