Fixed term contracts and benefits

I’ve been offered a 12 month fixed term contract. The only benefit I’ve been told I’m entitled to is the pension and the salary has been adjusted to compensate. My understanding is an employer must treat all ftc and permanent employees the same.

Employers must also ensure that fixed-term employees get:

  • the same pay and conditions as permanent staff
  • the same or equivalent benefits package
  • information about permanent vacancies in the organisation
  • protection against redundancy or dismissal

Does it seem likely I wouldn’t then be entitled to the same policies like sick leave etc?

Dismissal: your rights

Dismissal is when your employer ends your employment - reasons you can be dismissed, unfair and constructive dismissal and what to do if you're dismissed
