Job offer

Looking for advice please. I was made redundant 8 years ago from a role I’d worked in 17 years. Since then I’ve had some time off then had a few jobs in last few years. I left my most recent role after 11 months to go self employed but it’s not worked out. So I’ve started applying for employed roles, unsurprisingly I’ve had a lot of rejections as I don’t think I look reliable. I’ve now been offered a role but it has set working hours and I’ve struggled to get any flexibility when I’ve asked them about a 4 day week, 9 day fortnight etc. I have children I need to get to school etc one with additional needs and I don’t know what to do. I really want to go back to my old company as they were flexible and could start and finish whenever I wanted but know I’ll struggle due to living around a lot. What would you do?

How can you go back to your old company? Is there a job there? Have they offered you a job back there?

What do you mean by "living around a lot"?

Sorry that’s a typo, moving around a lot it should say. No the job is no longer there but it’s a huge company and there are plenty of other roles I can apply for, might not get the same salary but flexibility is more important to me. But again they might never select me for interview, I’ve already been rejected twice.

On that basis, I'd probably concentrate on finding a job with flexibility - there are plenty of companies and organisations that offer flexible working or full flexitime as standard.
Try not to make comparisons with your old company.

Thanks, that’s really good advice
