How to turn down a job offer without burning bridges?

Hello!

I’m in the fortunate position of receiving two job offers.

I’ve decided which to choose (a more senior role and working in a slightly different part of the sector than the other) and I signed the contract today.

I’m just not sure how to turn down the other. It’s a small industry and I don’t want to burn bridges (you never know when you might need to apply with them again), the hiring manager was also lovely. A recruiter put me forward for the role so do I let them know first (the company have also been directly in touch with me as well) or send an email to both? How do I word it?

Be honest. We’re recruiting and I know we can’t match London money. And so some candidates will turn us down for a role that pays more. Doesn’t mean that they haven’t all said how lovely we’ve been through the process. No bridges burnt at all!
