Primary Teacher Interview Advice

So feedback from one of my recent unsuccessful interview was I didn't pitch my teaching activity quite right. I've 20 years' experience and have never known a Y3/4 class performing at such a low level with immediately obvious knowledge gaps.
The feedback from the Head was that if you get called for interview you should contact the class teacher of the class you are going to be teaching, asking them for detailed information regarding where the children are at academically.
Is this standard these days?
I haven't been for an interview in a number of years but this didn't happen back then.
Thanks all 😀

All due to COVID I'm afraid. I'd always email in and ask for information on the class.

@JuiceBoxJuggler I don't think it always is due to Covid. The Year 4 class I teach currently is nowhere near as low.
I think it's due to fact that the class I was interviewed in have not had a qualified teacher half of the week for about a year.
Mainstream state education is screwed. Never known anything like it.
I'm now considering applying to private schools - something in my 20 years' teaching career I have never thought about considering.

Whilst that's a good point, always check in beforehand and email for details (that they can give due to GDPR).

Hi OP, you might get more traffic on your thread if you ask for it to be moved to the 'staffroom'. This board is predominantly used by HE academics.
