Hello,
I'm just about to accept a new job, and they want me to start asap. However two weeks after my agreed start date (they won't push it back) I'm off on a two week holiday which seems such a waster of a not massive holiday allowance. Can I ask for it to be unpaid and not count towards my allowance or would that look really bad?
Frankly I'd rather work 2 weeks for free and have my start date after my holiday than lose so much of my yearly allowance just one month into a job!
Thanks!

You can ask! They might be happy to say yes because you won’t have earned paid leave yet, I’d approve it on that basis, but not everywhere will be that flexible.

Ok thank you! It's just bad timing!

What do you mean waste of holiday allowance? It's still a holiday!

@longdistanceclaraclara it's not a holiday I would have chosen if I had a limited allowance (I was a SAHM) With my partners extended family!

See if you can use it as Parental Leave, explain that its a child related obligation, facilitating their relationship with grandparents. You can only ask!
