I was offered a job in early September last year and accepted. The job requires vetting which I was advised was taking 3-6 months.
It was late September when I had filled out everything required of me and it was acknowledged.
In my head I was hoping for mid range of 4 months and hoped to be in the new role by the end of Jan.
I hadn't heard anything until the end of March when I was contacted saying my vetting was being conducted and they had a few queries regarding some things I had disclosed. I then thought it wouldn't be long after that but I still have no updates. I chased it at the end of April and again this week to be told that there is no update and thanked for my patience.
I did have to declare some things on the vetting application so I had put a delay down to that but if I'm honest I think this is getting ridiculous now. I wouldn't have expected the vetting to take so long once it had been started.
I am desperate to leave my current job and once offered this job I stopped looking elsewhere as I was happy to wait for the clearance.
I'm now in a dilemma wondering whether to just wait it out now as surely it must be completed soon or to start applying for other jobs.
I'm also now worried that due to the things I had to disclose (3rd party criminal convictions) it will be refused anyway and I've wasted so much time waiting for this.
Has anyone got any words of wisdom or advice on what they'd do in my situation?
