Any HR / contract experts around?

New job lined up, I will be employed by the UK office as living in the UK, but working with the global team in the Stockholm office.

I will be working remotely from home in the UK with occasional travel to Sweden. I have agreed a max of 12 days per year in the interview process.

Contract just arrived and while it acknowledged in the text that I will be home based as per the work from home policy, my headline place of work is clearly stated as: Cambridge office, UK.
Nothing noted re maximum amount of in office time.

Also, I will be 0.8 FTE, which is acknowledged. Contract states 28 hours per week.

Salary is detailed. It is listed at what I had thought would be the 1.0 equivalent. Same for annual leave.

Would you typically expect a contract to show the actual pay and number of AL days (so 80% of full pay and allocation?). They’re not going to pay me the full amount for 80% contract are they?? I am wondering if when they offered they were offering 80% but I just assumed it was the 100% amount (I am happy with it being 100% and getting 80% of that, so no big deal- could be a nice surprise though!)

Do I get more specification re my place of work in black and white in the contract? Can I push for more details - I feel a bit vulnerable as is. Is it typical for people to request contract changes?

(and re the pay, it will be what it will be- I was just surprised to see the full amount)

I think it’s totally reasonable to go back and ask for clarification on the points you raised. You can do it in a friendly manner, so not implying you’re going to turn it down. It’s important to get everything clear before you sign so you know where you stand when you start.

For my current role I was promised working from home during face to face interviews and tried to get it in writing but, I think like you, felt a bit vulnerable and didn’t want to push. Cut to starting the job and suddenly working from home was a big problem for them. I had to really push on it as commuting every day was impossible. I secured it in the end but it didn’t help my relationship with the MD.

If they’ve offered you the job they obviously want you so now is the time to make sure everything in the contract is as it should be.
