Teaching English Online

I'm considering doing a teaching English as a foreign language course. I'd like to teach online rather than in a classroom.

Do any of you do this? I am wondering how much I could make a month. In my current role I get just under £2K a month to live on.

Also, if you work for a teaching company are there pension schemes etc

Are you thinking of teaching adults or children?

Do you have a teaching qualification or relevant experience?

Have a look on LinkedIn - always loads of job ads for online TEFL teachers.

I don't mind who I teach, it would be online. I have a degree in linguistics and would do the TEFL course but no experience in teaching.

I'm not sure if I would make enough money for it to be a full time job though

Honestly? With zero teaching experience and just a TEFL course, no.

It takes years of experience to be a good teacher, and online teaching requires additional skills.

@dreamfield - thanks for the honest advice. Appreciated

For online English teaching the pay is pretty terrible and since the collapse of lots of the Chinese companies that taught children, the market feels over saturated with tutors and just bad wages and a large turnover of tutors that don’t stay for long.
