I'm a carer - Is it possible to work for NHS bank?

I'm an experienced carer in a private residential home. I'd like to earn more on a flexible basis. Is it possible to join the nhs bank if not already an NHS staff member, if so, how?

Extra questions - Do bank staff get access to nhs pension scheme? Are there generally many shifts available for care staff?

Yes you can join the bank if not already a member of NHS staff. You would need to contact the hospital nurse bank directly to ask about vacancies. And you are automatically enrolled into the pension scheme when you join the NHS.
Also bear in mind if you want to work in the general hospital or in mental health. In some places they are separate nurse banks.

Sorry, I meant to add, that you would be classed as a band 2 healthcare support worker, and certainly in my area, there are always tons of shifts for band 2's! Good luck. 🙂

Do you know if bank staff get an NHS discount card?

As PP says yes you can join the pension scheme.

It depends on the Trust but in my area the Bank is open to internal candidates to join at any time.
They advertise externally a couple of times a year when they need to recruit and that's when you would be able to join
