How long to wait after interview?

I interviewed for a job almost 2 weeks ago and I’m going out of my mind waiting to hear back! Is this a normal length of time?

The interview went brilliantly and I really want the job, but I’m starting to wonder if I should cut my losses and keep hunting ☹️.

I honestly have no idea! Is this a corporate role?

I went for a senior management role, final interview was on Thursday. Spoke with their HR on Friday who said she should hear back by Monday... NOTHING since then!

Ok, tomorrow is "only" Wednesday but o feel like if they want you, they would tell you sooner rather than later right?!

Sorry! I know it's not the insight you we're probably after 😅I hope you hear back tomorrow!

Btw, have you sent a follow up email? (I haven't and my pride won't really allow me to at this stage!)

Hate the waiting!!

Honestly I think it depends on what the job is, how big the company is & how many applicants were being invited to interview. When we recruited recently we had a crazy amount of applications for the vacancies available and as a result we had a lot of interviews to hold, we did the interviews spread over 3 weeks because the people who host the interviews also have full time jobs and so we can’t/don’t dedicate say 1 week all day every day to interviewing, it has to be spread out so that it doesn’t impact day to day business too much. This does mean though that if you were interview 1 day 1 then you could be waiting 4 weeks to hear back because we need to hold all of the interviews and then we need to decide who is successful once they have all been done. It just depends on the circumstances though because obviously if it’s a small business, 1 job role, 3 applicants and all interviews were done on the same day then yeah 2 weeks is a long time to hear nothing back.

Sorry, I should have said, it’s a large corporate company.

@Fearnecuptea Totally with you on not wanting to send a follow up email, but I caved and sent one today and still haven’t heard back 😅. My mind is running away with me that they are waiting for their chosen candidate to accept before letting the rest of us down. Honestly I just want to know at this point! Hope you aren’t waiting too much longer either.

@Mrsttcno1 Oh gosh! That makes sense but I really hope I don’t have to wait another two weeks, I feel like I’m losing my mind already!

Easter holidays may impact - key decision makers may be off for a fortnight

Sorry, it's no help this time round but do in future use the last question of the 'do you have any questions for us' section of the interview to ask them when you might expect to hear back.

If that date sails past, you can legitimately follow up to ask if there is anything you need in order to decide.

Next time, eh

Meanwhile it's entirely possible that as PP mentioned it just takes one decision maker to be away and you are left waiting.

Good luck.
