Hearing back after job interview ?

summertimessadness24 · 08/04/2024 12:07

I had an interview last Thursday morning and stupidly ( kicking myself here) forgot to ask when I would hear back !

For a job I really want and would be very happy to get

My question is, do I chase ?

Haven't been in this position for a while and feel out the loop

I almost don't want to send an email to chase even though I could say I was just wondering when I would hear and that I'm eager / interested

What's your thoughts please?

Thanks in advance

If you haven't already sent a thank you email reiterating your interest in the position, do that now and mention you'd love to know when you can expect to hear.

If you have done that, I wouldn't chase until two weeks later at the earliest. But the best thing you can do is put it out of your head and carry on job searching. If they want to hire you, they won't forget to tell you so.

I think if they interviewed on Thursday they would have made the decision on Friday and possibly offered on Friday. So I would imagine they are waiting for the first offered person to confirm or refuse. I wouldn’t give up hope yet, if you did well in the interview there is a very good chance you are still in with a shout, lots of people turn job offers down for one reason or another.

I thought the same - I thought they would offer Friday

I just hate the thought of emailing saying thank you I'm interested especially when I haven't heard

I didn't think too much over the weekend thinking if they want me they would have called

Now it's on my mind.....

Thank you both

There's no reason to think they would offer Friday. They might have had three candidates left to see who weren't available until next week. Or they can't move forward with a hire until the senior approver is back from holiday. Or they're dealing with something else important. There are a million reasons why these things take longer than the candidate thinks they should.

In my experience these things can take ages - weeks or even months. So I wouldn't worry that you haven't heard yet. As previously suggested, send a follow up 'thank you' email then sit tight. Good luck.

Friday and Monday were bank holidays so I wouldn't send a chaser email until maybe Weds/Thurs this week.

All very true thank you
I did send a thank you and they replied saying I'll know by Wednesday so not too long at all - I just wish I knew but I know now x
