Cut a long story short I'm a staff nurse, qualified in 2022 but went on maternity leave in 2023 so not long in the role. I've asked for a transfer to another ward as I've been on the same one for 13 years (before as a HCA) and my manager has told me an exciting opportunity has come up to work in intensive care. Of course I'm excited but I'm absolutely nervous and also dreading it because I feel so incompetent I don't know how to work anything in intensive care never been taught and it's just so scary!! Everyone tells me that I'll be taught everything but I can't shake off the nerves and the feeling of not being good enough. Can anyone who has ever worked in an intensive care ward tell me not to be as scared as I am? And it's not impossible?
