Hi all,
I am currently on maternity leave and wondered if anyone experienced anything similar. A job role was advertised at my place of work (secondary school working in a safeguarding team). I already work in the safeguarding team however, this would be a step up from my current position. I also have relevant experience t for the specifics they were looking for.
I chatted to my manager who told me to apply and that I would be very suited to the role. Fast forward time and I didn't even get offered an interview and was not even told I hadnt been shortlisted. I believe my application was good and should've at least gotten an interview. I wanted the interview for expierence for that kind of job role, I understand it's a big ask to ask the employer to wait for my return. I have since found out that an admin member of staff got offered an interview when they have no expierence in the job role so I 100% believe it is due to me being on maternity leave which is why they didn't tell me I hadn't been shortlisted as they'd have to give me feedback.
I am planning on going to my union about this but wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar and what the outcome was?
Thank you in advance x

Have you asked for feedback and why you weren’t shortlisted? That seems like the most sensible starting point.
