Pregnant & Possibly Being Made Redundant..

Hello..

Worker in Scotland who is meant to be going on maternity leave a week on Friday. Sad news broke today that my workplace are doing redundancies business wide with around 120 being let go in my location.

I am one of a pool of 6 that they want to downsize to 5.

Currently 33 weeks pregnant and have worked with the company since October 2022.

Really happy there but have been on a performance improvement plan due to a historic error that cost quite a bit of money and a couple of other factors. I was due to be reviewed on this 1 day prior to my going on my maternity leave and tbh felt like it would be in my favour (however I don't actually know this) but now they've sprung it on us that we could potentially lose our job.

Honestly I have no chance of keeping do I because of this performance plan?

Sorry you are going through this 😞 The improvement plan should be considered separately to redundancy so shouldn't be a factor in the decision.

Have they offered voluntary redundancy?

The OP is entitled to be offered any suitable alternative role, but she does not get priority in the pool selection process. The article linked makes this clear. There are no new or enhanced rights, the changes are about the time frames for the extended redundancy protection.

I disagree that being on a PIP is not going to impact the selection process, it might not but it is not unusual to consider performance when there is a redundancy selection process.
