Trying to make me change my hours?

I recently returned from maternity leave and when I returned to work my scheduled hours were Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays which worked perfect for me as my 4 year old is in nursery these days, and my mum has my little one while I'm at work these days.
I've recently been told that I now HAVE to work either a Saturday or Sunday. I've told them I don't have any childcare on the weekends, only the times when my eldest is in school which I'm already working.
Can they make me work a weekend? Or am I in my right to say no? Thankyou x

What does your contract say? Like for example where I work, technically our contracts say we may have to work weekends if asked. The reality is that nobody has ever ever asked, I have colleagues 15+ years in the job who have not once been asked to work a weekend. BUT if they did want us to then we would have to because it does state in our contracts that those could be our working days. You need to check what yours says x

I've checked my contract and didn't see anything about weekend working

It might not specifically say weekends, it could say something like “across the business opening hours” or similar so AKA if it’s open every day of the week then you could be expected to work every day of the week.

Also have a look to see if it says anything about a flexibility clause, or anything that says they can make changes to contract depending on the needs of the business.
