After leaving a good job to take a new permanent role I’ve just been told today I’m being made redundant after not being in the role for even a year. I’m terrified, can anyone give me a good few tips on an action plan for the next couple of days. I’m a single mum and just feel like I’ve failed. Apparently it’s a funding issue

First take a breath. Being made redundant is horrible (been there, done that more than once) and appreciate it feels shit but it's not personal and you aren't a failure, your employer is for needing to do this.

Ideally take your time but finance will drive urgency so

  1. Do you get redundancy pay? Obviously under the time requirements for statutory but does the company give it anyway (mine did) or offer severance pay
  2. What is your notice pay?
  3. Can you claim anything to help

Obviously the answers to these will drive how quickly you need find a new job. Good news is having just got a new position presumably your cv is up to date? And you are obviously employable so don't panic. Is your old employer an option? Someone who got made redundant at same time as me had only been in position 2 weeks and managed to get his old job back.

You'll get something and it may well be better

Edited to add make sure linkedin is up to date and don't be afraid to ask contacts for help. Loads of people have been through it and will want to help

Thankyou so much for replying, I get 2 months notice, unfortunately no chance of old job back!
Financially I think I could be ok for a little while but I see the cut off date with that approaching sharpish. You have been very helpful in your message with things like the CV- it is up to date will just need slight amendments so that’s good!
im going to maybe set little goals aligned with what you have mentioned and try not to panic too much!

Great comments above and you can also claim job seekers allowance regardless of any savings, you are assigned a work coach who in my past experience was very helpful in pointing you in right direction even offering opportunities, good luck.
