I’ve worked in admin for 25 years and have a lot of experience, however not in the field that my new job is in.
I started this new role just 2 weeks ago and don’t feel it’s worth continuing!
it’s a small office with the owner, the office manager and me. The office manager is rude and abrupt. She thinks training me, is watching her work on a system she has used for 5 years and try to take it all in, where she is just working at her usual speed!! I try to make notes, and take it in but there’s no time to take notes! Then still week 1 she would tell me to sit and do the work, with her sitting next to me, watching me, telling me what to do!! If I hover over a section to click on something thats wrong, she will say ‘noooo think about where to go next!!’ I’ve never used the system before!! The pressure feels horrible having somebody literally watch you, waiting for you to make a mistake.
My second week, I walked in on the first day of that week, I set the office up as she showed me, and because I didn’t do it in an order that she saw correct, she was rude and pulled me up on it.
I walked in on the second day of my second week, and she said ‘I’ve done the morning routine, can you hoover through!!’ I just did it! There was no mention in the interview that we all muck in and help with cleaning of the office. She also didn’t say ‘can you hoover up, we all take it in turns!’ If it had been said in a nice way and implied we all do it as and when, it wouldn’t have bothered me, but she didn’t. I’ve never seen the owner or manager hoover up and I’ve don’t it twice.
She watched me go to ring a number today and then abruptly grabbed the phone and slammed it down as I was ringing a number I shouldn’t. However she was stood over me and knew I was going to try to call them, there was a note on the file, that I didn’t know to look at but she did, and knew I was going to make that mistake, watched me do it, and then slamming the phone down was the way she thought was the correct way to tell me.
sorry if my grammar is all over the place it’s because I’m all over the place and upset!
my husband is very supportive and says to leave, we do need the money but I could get admin agency work to see me through.
